Christina Siegert received the Theodor Körner Prize for her dissertation “Poverty risk within couples across the family life course”
Her work examines how parenthood influences the poverty risk of women and men in couple households, considering joint and personal income, i.e., with and without partner income. The study shows that mothers, in particular, often depend on their partner's financial support to avoid poverty, a perspective that has been overlooked in poverty reporting thus far. Through the analysis of quantitative data from a European country comparison and the transition to parenthood in Germany, new insights are gained into income inequality and the risk of poverty in heterosexual couples.
