The funding program is aimed at successful, internationally visible researchers. It is endowed with up to 1 million Euro for a period of five years and offers outstanding researchers the conditions they need to conduct long-term research projects at a top international level, consolidate their individual research profiles, and acquire the necessary qualifications for academic leadership positions.
About the project
Remaking security: technopolitics in the Global East (RE-SECURE)
RE-SECURE explores how expert capacities inherited from the past can be adapted for changing political and security conditions. The project investigates different pathways of reinventing expertise from the Cold War till nowadays and studies the histories of science diplomacy in Austria, biodefence in Czechia, and cybernetics in Estonia. Through innovative methodology focusing on the transformation of expert ideas, tools, and networks, it helps us understand how security politics shape scientific research, and vice versa. By doing so, it will provide insights into overlooked legacies from the past and pave the way for exploring innovative ways to address new and emerging security threats.
About Dagmar Vorlíček
Dagmar Vorlíček is a University Assistant at the Department of Sociology at the University of Vienna. Her research explores the intersection of science and security, with a focus on the role of knowledge and expertise in governing security in modern societies. She has worked on topics such as biological weapons, dual-use research, biobanking, or dis- and misinformation. Her work has been published in leading academic journals and shaped academic debates on science, technology, and security politics.
Prior to her current position, she worked as a lecturer and a researcher at the University of Sussex, IHS Vienna, and Charles University in Prague, and held a number of visiting positions, including at the Geneva Graduate Institute, the University of Ottawa, or the Central European University. Currently, she is also an editor-in-chief of Journal of International Relations and Development.
