The Marie Jahoda Winter School offers highly qualified PhD students and early postdoctoral researchers in sociology and related fields the opportunity to discuss their PhD thesis (or other ongoing projects) with distinguished international scholars in the field, to exchange with other doctoral students and early-career scholars who work on similar topics and to establish networks within the community.

The winter school is organised as a combination of lectures, students' presentations and discussions. Students will be asked to submit their papers – i.e. (part of) PhD thesis or other ongoing project – beforehand and present them during the course in order to receive extensive feedback from distinguished researchers and other participants. Every participant will receive two papers of other participants in advance and will be asked to provide detailed feedback. The language of instruction is English, all applicants are to demonstrate a strong command of spoken and written English.

This year, the PhD projects should fall under one or more of the following fields of study:

  • Gender inequality and intersectionality
  • Movements around migration
  • Labour, precariousness and unionism
  • Climate justice and biodiversity
  • Homelessness and housing movements
  • New forms of activism in the digital age

The winter school will include a public keynote by a leading international scholar and a theatre play on Marie Jahoda and Käthe Leichter.
