Migration / Ethnicity / Social Inequality
Developed industrial societies across the world are increasingly confronted with migration processes; this research area is presently characterized by a high level of migrational and sociocultural diversity. In this connection, the Department concentrates especially on the following: social-structural causes and consequences of migration, labor migration and social inequality, elite migration, sociocultural diversity, living conditions, integration into different areas of society, first- and second-generation identities, and majority-minority relationships (conflicts, stereotypes, discrimination). Based on quantitative and qualitative methods, our investigations cover problem areas from the perspectives of both minorities and the majority society. Research results are subjected to interdisciplinary discourse.
